Babe's Smokehouse & Tavern is the latest chapter in a family legacy that began with Donald Warren Callender, the visionary behind the beloved Marie Callender's restaurants. After selling his restaurant chain in 1986, Don brought his passion for cooking to the Coachella Valley, where he opened Babe's Bar-B-Que & Brewhouse in 2002 as a space to experiment with his kitchen creations. Though Don is no longer with us, his spirit lives on through every dish we serve. We continue to honor his original recipes—many of which are crafted from scratch daily—while adding our own modern twist to meet the tastes of today’s guests. From our slow-smoked ribs to our iconic pies, you can still taste the love and tradition Don poured into his cooking. Now owned and operated by Don’s son, Lucky, this new restaurant, Babe's Smokehouse & Tavern, was built with love and dedication by Lucky himself, continuing the family’s commitment to quality and tradition. The legacy of family, flavor, and creativity is at the heart of everything we do here, and we invite you to share in that history with every bite.
